Anaheim: Freeway Hit & Run Leaves Pedestrian Dead

09.13.2020 | 1:31 AM | ANAHEIM – A pedestrian was struck and killed by and hit-and-run driver while walking in lanes on the I-5 Freeway, early Sunday morning.

Authorities responded to reports of a pedestrian walking with a shopping cart in northbound lanes of the I-5 Freeway near Disneyland Drive around 1:31 AM.

While responding to the scene additional callers reported that the pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.

Officers arriving on scene confirmed the pedestrian had been struck by at least two vehicles and was deceased.

During their preliminary investigation officers learned that a dark grey vehicle, possibly a Toyota, struck the pedestrian but did not stop to render aid or summon help.

A second vehicle then struck the pedestrian who was already down in lanes. The driver of that vehicle pulled to the shoulder while a third vehicle, a grey Honda Element, struck the pedestrian’s shopping cart and continued on.

An alert officer located the Honda along with the deceased pedestrian’s mangled shopping cart in a Ruby’s parking lot located in the 1100 block of Lincoln Avenue.

The drivers of both vehicles that stopped were not believed to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol and are not facing charges.

Officers are continuing to search for the suspect who fled after initially striking the pedestrian.
