Costa Mesa: Armed Fugitives Apprehended After Pursuit

04.23.2020 | 2:35 PM | COSTA MESA – Two fugitives, including one armed with a knife, were apprehended after leading officers on a pursuit, Thursday afternoon.

A California Highway Patrol officer attempted to stop a speeding red Toyota Camry occupied by a male driver and female passenger on the northbound SR-73 Freeway just south of the SR-55 Freeway around 2:35 PM.

The driver of the vehicle failed to yield to the officer and transitioned into the northbound SR-55 Freeway as the officer initiated pursuit.

Moments later the driver of the vehicle exited the freeway at Paularino Avenue and the officer lost visual.

Witnesses flagged down the officer and informed him that the suspect had parked the vehicle before both occupants fled on foot heading southbound.

A police helicopter and multiple officers on the ground established a perimeter and eventually located both the male driver and female passenger.

The male was armed with a knife and was driving on a suspended or revoked drivers license with at least one outstanding warrant for his arrest.

The female was determined to have multiple outstanding warrants for her arrest as well and both were placed into custody.

The suspect vehicle was not reported stolen and was expected to be towed from the scene.
