02.24.2021 | 12:00 AM | FOUNTAIN VALLEY – Once a popular destination for electronics and more, Fry’s Electronics is no more.
The announcement posted to the company’s website and initially reported by KRON4 indicates that the family-run business will cease regular operations on February 24th, 2021.
After nearly 36 years the the former one-stop-shop for all things electronic cited “changes in the retail industry and the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic” as factors in its decision to close doors in its 31 stores across nine states.
For many however the writing has been on the wall for years.
Poor customer service marked by increasingly empty shelves as the company switched to a “consignment model” are just some reasons why the retailer known for its massive brick-and-mortar outlets was passed up by internet giants like Amazon and Newegg.
The company famously tried to dispel rumors of its impending demise prompting further scrutiny.
Nonetheless, for many, visits to Fry’s Electronics and its many themed locations used to bring back memories and nostalgia.
Video from a Fry’s Electronics location in Fountain Valley showed no mention of the company’s recent closure.
