Garden Grove: Fireworks Injure 12 At Lunar New Year Celebration

01.24.2020 | 11:00 PM | GARDEN GROVE – At least 12 people were injured by fireworks that were launched in close proximity to revelers at a Lunar New Year celebration, Friday night.

Authorities responded to reports of multiple patients suffering from injuries related to a fireworks accident at a Lunar New Year celebration outside the Hue Quang Buddhist Temple located in the 4900 block of Westminster Avenue around 11:00 PM.

Units arriving on scene located a large crowd blocking all lanes of Westminster Avenue with fireworks and other explosives going off in close proximity.

Several victims were located in various locations who were injured after fireworks went off in the crowd.

At least 12 individuals were injured, and eight people were transported to area hospitals for treatment. Two of the eight victims were reported to have suffered traumatic injuries.

Police were still working to clear out crowds from the event as of 1:00 AM.

It was unclear if any arrests were made or if criminal conduct was suspected.
