Huntington Beach: Armed Man Shot, Killed By Police On Beach

09.25.2021 | 3:15 PM | HUNTINGTON BEACH – A man who was armed with a gun was shot to death by police at a beach as onlookers watched the US Open of Surfing, Saturday afternoon.

The officer-involved shooting occurred shortly after 3:15 PM at Huntington Beach City Beach, located near the 300 block of Pacific Coast Highway, when officers responded to reports of a suspicious person with a gun.

When officers located the man just south of the pier he reportedly became non-compliant with commands given by the officers.

An officer-involved shooting occurred and the suspect, a male Hispanic, was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The man was later identified as 43-year-old Ronnie Andrew Garcia. His city of residence was unknown.

Police say a firearm was recovered from the scene of the shooting.

A number of individuals were in the area enjoying the beach and watching the US Open of Surfing when the fatal officer-involved shooting occurred.
