Irvine: Fiery Hit & Run Crash Into USPS Parking Lot

06.12.2020 | 3:25 AM | IRVINE – A man was in police custody after a fiery hit-and-run crash into a post office parking lot, early Friday morning.

Authorities responded to reports of a traffic collision with fire at the United States Postal Service’s Harvest Station located in the 17100 block of Murphy Avenue, near McGaw Avenue, around 3:25 AM.

Units arriving on scene located a black 2010 Dodge Charger that had crashed through a planter into the post office parking lot and was engulfed in flames.

Firefighters quickly doused the flames before determine the vehicle was unoccupied.

Officers on patrol located the suspected driver of the vehicle near the intersection of Main Street and Park Plaza at around 3:46 AM.

Paramedics responded to evaluate the driver but he refused treatment.

Drugs or alcohol are not believed to be a factor but the driver was expected to

remain in police custody pending a mental health evaluation.
