Irvine: Stolen LAPD Cruiser Pursuit Ends With Arrest

05.08.2021 | 7:20 PM | IRVINE – A man who led police on a bizarre chase in a stolen police vehicle was taken into custody, Saturday evening.

The pursuit began when officers tried to stop a suspect in a stolen Los Angeles Police Department patrol vehicle near East Los Angeles shortly before 7:20 PM.

The suspect fled from officers on nearby freeways before continuing south on the I-5 Freeway into Orange County.

At one point the suspect began singing on the police radio before eventually coming to a stop just north of Culver Drive on the southbound I-5 Freeway.

The suspect seemed to comply with officers but began doing push-ups and trying to dance before eventually being taken into custody at around 7:42 PM.

The stolen police cruiser, a Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor, was reportedly stolen from LAPD’s Olympic Division. It was later towed from the scene of the pursuit termination due to mechanical issues.
