Officers attempted to stop a grey Volkswagen Golf GTI that had been reported stolen near Brookhurst Street and the I-5 Freeway around 1:35 PM.

The driver and solo occupant of the vehicle failed to yield and entered the southbound I-5 Freeway prompting a pursuit.

The chase continued south when the suspect exited Jeffrey Road and worked his way towards the Doria Apartment Homes located in the 1000 block of Crested Bird in Irvine.

The teenage suspect ditched the vehicle in front of a garage and fled on foot into a family member’s apartment.

An occupant inside the apartment contacted police and a standoff ensued before a team of officers entered the home and detained the 16-year-old without further incident at around 3:15 PM.

Nobody inside the home was injured and the stolen vehicle did not appear damaged.
