09.12.2022 | 3:30 PM | NEWPORT BEACH – A bicyclist was killed by a repeat DUI driver who tried to flee the scene of the fatal crash before being caught Sunday morning, authorities announced Monday.

The deadly crash was reported when a vehicle driven by 36-year-old Adriana Rivera Bernal, of Anaheim, struck a bicyclist on Jamboree Road south of University Drive around 8:26 AM, Sunday morning.

The collision left the bicyclist, later identified as 45-year-old Randon William Cintron, of Costa Mesa, deceased in the roadway.

Bernal reportedly fled the scene after the crash and was later located near Corona del Mar High School in the nearby Eastbluff neighborhood.

Police determined that Bernal, who had been previously convicted of DUI, was under the influence of a drug at the time of the crash and was charged with murder and hit-and-run.

Bernal was booked into the Orange County Jail where she is being held in lieu of over $1 million bail. Jail records indicate she is unemployed.
