Placentia: Man Killed After Shooting At Officers

05.29.2021 | 1:10 AM | PLACENTIA – A suspect who shot at officers was killed when they returned gunfire, early Saturday morning.

The officer-involved shooting occurred around 1:10 AM when officers attempted to make contact with the occupant of a vehicle parked outside a vacant building in the 800 block of North Rose Drive.

During the encounter the male suspect and solo occupant of the vehicle opened fire on the officers

One round from the suspect struck the a patrol vehicle but no officers were hit.

The officers returned fire and struck the suspect who was later pronounced deceased despite life-saving efforts.

A semi-automatic handgun believed to be the suspect’s was recovered from the scene.

Officers were wearing body-worn cameras a the time of the encounter but the footage is being withheld pending an investigation by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office and Placentia Police Department.
