Santa Ana: Firefighters Douse Storm Drain Fire

01.04.2021 | 12:45 AM | SANTA ANA – An underground fire in a storm drain system was extinguished by firefighters, early Monday morning.

Authorities responded to reports of smoke coming from multiple storm drains in the 2800 block of South Main Street, between Dyer Road and Goetz Avenue, around 12:45 AM.

Upon arrival firefighters located multiple storm drains and manholes with smoke showing and began efforts to locate and extinguish the fire.

Starting with the storm drain producing the most smoke, flushed the drain system with water until the smoke had dissipated.

There was no word on the cause of the fire but residents nearby reported hearing a loud explosion shortly before underground fires were discovered.
