Santa Ana: Trapped Driver Cut From Vehicle After Crash Into Tree

08.21.2020 | 11:14 PM | SANTA ANA – A driver who crashed into a tree became trapped in his vehicle and had to be cut free by firefighters, late Friday night.

The crash was first reported around 11:14 PM at the intersection of West Segerstrom Avenue and South Townsend Street.

When crews arrived on scene they located a 1997 Toyota Camry that had slammed into a tree leaving the driver and solo occupant of the vehicle trapped inside.

Crews used the Jaws of Life and other power tools to perform an extended extrication that involved removing the roof of the Toyota.

The trapped driver was freed from the wreckage in under 30 minutes and

rushed to an area hospital in unknown condition.

All westbound lanes of West Segerstrom Avenue were closed at South Townsend Street until about 3:00 AM while authorities investigated.
