Silverado: Tire Blowout Strikes Motorcyclist Causing Serious Injuries

06.02.2019 | 12:18 AM | SILVERADO – A motorcyclist was hospitalized with serious injuries after being struck by a tire that burst off of an SUV, early Sunday morning.

Authorities responded to reports of a possible hit and run involving a motorcyclist on Santiago Canyon Road near Williams Canyon Road around 12:18 AM.

Units arriving on scene found a 26-year-old male motorcyclist suffering from serious injuries.

Firefighter paramedics treated the victim on scene before transporting him to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo with serious injuries.

Witnesses reported that the motorcyclist was traveling on Santiago Canyon Road when the driver of a black SUV made a left-turn from Williams Canyon Road.

During the turn the left-rear tire of the black SUV suffered a blowout and debris struck the motorcyclist causing him to lose control and crash.

The driver of the SUV continued on before eventually stopping and contacting authorities unaware she had caused a crash.

The cause of the blowout is under investigation but initial reports indicate the driver of the SUV was aware of an issue with her tire that needed repair.

Alcohol nor drugs were believed to be a factor in the incident.
