Tustin: DUI Crash Into Fire Hydrant, Pole Prompts Road Closure

11.09.2019 | 2:29 AM | TUSTIN – A suspected DUI driver lost control before striking a fire hydrant and a light pole injuring two of his passengers, early Saturday morning.

Authorities responded to reports of a traffic collision with injuries near the intersection of Red Hill Avenue and Mitchell Avenue around 2:29 AM.

Units arriving on scene located white Toyota sedan with three occupants that had collided with a fire hydrant and a light pole.

Firefighter paramedics arriving on scene treated both a male and female passenger before transporting them to an area hospital in unknown condition.

The male driver was administered field sobriety tests on scene before being placed into custody on suspicion of DUI.

It took crews approximately an hour to shut off the flow of water to the damaged fire hydrant prompting the closure of all northbound lanes of Red Hill Avenue until further notice.
