Tustin: One Dead, Two Injured After Freeway Crash

02.23.2021 | 2:09 AM | TUSTIN – A two-car crash on a freeway left one person dead and two others injured, early Tuesday morning.

Officers came across the wreck involving a BMW sedan and a Lexus SUV with major damage on the southbound SR-55 Freeway just north of the I-5 Freeway around 2:09 AM.

Firefighter paramedics responded to the scene and discovered a total of three victims.

One of the victims, later identified as 24-year-old Esperanza Cruz, of Anaheim, was pronounced deceased at the scene despite life-saving efforts.

Two other victims were transported by ambulance in unknown condition to area hospitals.

Traffic was being diverted off the southbound SR-55 Freeway at East 4th Street while officers worked to piece together the circumstances that led to the deadly crash.

It was not immediately clear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident.
