Tustin: Fight Breaks Out During Hit & Run DUI Arrest

06.29.2019 | 1:30 AM | TUSTIN – A fight broke out involving relatives of a suspected DUI driver who struck a vehicle before fleeing, Saturday morning.

Authorities responded to reports of a possible DUI driver who struck a parked vehicle before fleeing near the intersection of Newport and Edinger avenues around 1:30 AM.

Officers arriving on scene located the suspect vehicle occupied by a driver and passenger who appeared visibly intoxicated and unable to follow commands.

It took multiple officers to remove the driver from the vehicle and officers enlisted family members to assist in removing the volatile passenger.

Due to the large group of relatives at the scene and level of intoxication of the driver, officers were unable to perform field sobriety tests on scene.

Despite visibly delaying and interfering with officers the passenger was released on scene and continued to be belligerent before engaging in physical combat with the relatives who were attempting to contain him.

Officers transported to driver off scene but it was unclear what charges he might face.
