Tustin: Man Dead After Car Is Impaled By Guardrail

05.09.2021 | 11:49 AM | TUSTIN – A man was dead after his vehicle was impaled by a guardrail on a bridge, Sunday afternoon.

Callers reported the crash involving a white Toyota Prius Prime on the Moffett Drive bridge just east of Jamboree Road around 11:49 AM.

Crews arriving on scene located the Toyota with heavy front-end damage after it collided with a guardrail.

The force of the impact split the front of the vehicle in half causing the adult male driver inside to be trapped.

Firefighter paramedics stabilized the vehicle and prepared to extract the victim but later pronounced them deceased on scene.

The decedent was identified as 67-year-old Frank Goetz, of Irvine, CA. Public records show Goetz lived near the site of the crash.

Both directions of Moffett Drive were closed between Meridian Way and Downs Road until about 4:00 PM while police investigated.

Police do not believe drugs or alcohol to be involved in the solo crash.
