Tustin: Sheared Hydrant Causes Massive Geyser

12.22.2019 | 3:03 AM | TUSTIN – A hydrant sheared by a big rig that made a wrong turn caused a massive geyser, early Sunday morning.

Authorities responded to reports of a sheared fire hydrant near the intersection of Tustin Ranch Road and El Camino Real around 3:03 AM.

Crews arriving on scene located a sheared fire hydrant to the rear of a vacant building with water shooting over 60 feet into the air.

The driver of a nearby big rig reportedly made a wrong turn while making a delivery to Costco and was trying to back out when he struck the hydrant.

It took crews approximately 15 minutes to shut off the flow of water to the hydrant.

The incident was classified as an accident and the truck driver continued on his route.

There was no visible damage to the big rig.
