07.31.2021 | 12:03 AM | TUSTIN – A man was injured after his vehicle jumped a curb and sheared a traffic signal pole causing it to become embedded in the vehicle’s hood, early Saturday morning.

The crash was reported at the intersection of Newport Avenue and East 1st Street around 12:03 AM.

When units arrived on scene they located a silver Chevrolet 1500 that appeared to have been traveling eastbound on 1st Street when it crossed a median, jumped a curb, struck a traffic control box, and then sheared a traffic signal pole before coming to rest in southbound lanes of Newport Avenue.

Firefighters used a fire extinguisher to keep the truck from catching fire and rendered aid to the male driver. He was later transported to OC Global Medical Center in unknown condition.

It was not immediately clear if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash but police are continuing to investigate.

All traffic lights at the intersection were disabled as a result of the crash.
